Description

This elegant terracotta jar, assembled using the potter’s wheel technique, has retained its polychromy. Its shimmering aesthetic presents a decoration of interlacing clouds and coloured scrolls. These painted motifs are spread out over the whole piece and refer to a cosmic world. In addition, the vase also bears a taotie mask motif on its body, an emblematic element of the ornamental repertoire of ancient China. This ancient Hu vase is thus perfectly anchored in the production of painted terracottas of the Han dynasty, which flourished unprecedentedly at that time.

Condition report:

The work is in a good state of conservation and its decoration has kept a nice polychromy.
