Han polychrome vase in cocoon shape
Han dynasty (206 B.C. – 220 A.D.)
H. 36 cm or 14 1/8 in / L. 41 cm or 16 1/8 in
This splendid vase characteristic of the Han period holds its originality in its shape of a silkworm cocoon. Still bearing traces of clay, this funerary piece was buried to accompany the deceased. It has a fascinating design of interlacing clouds stylized by scrolls of orange, violet and white colors, as well as flamboyant red lines.
This work shows very good condition, despite a chip on the foot edge. The polychromy has also been extremely well preserved.
