Description

This bowl, dated to the 16th-17th centuries, embodies the mastery of Vietnamese craftsmen in the production of underglaze blue-decorated ceramics. The object, whose base is decorated with two thin blue lines, has a spherical body ending in a slightly flared lip.
The main frieze is decorated with foliage and scrolls around a chrysanthemum, a symbol of renewal. Stylized lotuses unfold in the lower register, adding to the dynamism of this very delicate piece.

Divided into several registers surrounded by a delicate blue line, the calligraphic style of the plant motifs is very sensitive and ensures the success of these pieces with foreign customers.
Inspired by the Chinese production of the famous “blues and whites”, Vietnamese ceramics nevertheless present a spontaneity and a freedom in its composition which make it an original and authentic art, appreciated beyond the borders.
